Dota 2 Cupcakes

Dota 2 Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for a Dota 2 International Watch Party. What is that you might ask?

Dota 2 is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game developed and published by Valve Corporation. Once a year they host The International, a worldwide tournament held in Seattle where the top teams compete for some serious prize money.

I don't have the time to invest in being a viable Dota 2 player, but a have many friends that love playing the game. So when I was invited to come watch the 2016 International Tournament I knew I wanted to try making something Dota 2 related.

First things first- let's make the cupcake base! For this I used Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix. Once the cupcakes were baked and cooled, I scooped out the center of the cupcake, added in some chocolate pudding, and put the tops back on.

I made the buttercream frosting myself using this recipe, and used this Wilton tool to swirl the pink and white flavors so they (mostly) matched with the Dota brand colors.

The cupcakes are almost complete! Now to add the Dota 2 logo...

Here they are at the party! You can see the tournament happening in the background. They were a bit hit and went fast!

Lessons learned:

   • Apply any fondant decorations to the cupcakes before they go into the refrigerator and the frosting gets hard.
