May 4th Gingerbread Wookies

May 4th Gingerbread Wookies

May the 4th be with you!

What better way to celebrate May 4th than with some Star Wars inspired Gingerbread Wookies? And do you know what I found out when I decided, last-minute, to make these? That gingerbread takes multiple days to make because you put the dough in the fridge for multiple days! That was not going to work!

Thankfully, this recipe allowed for the gingerbread to be made within a few hours. As such, it has a lighter look and taste, but there's still plenty of spice to it!

Jungle photoshoot done at work through combining potted plants, outdoor landscaping and some jurassic park forestry found online. :)

What You'll Need

1 (1lb) box dark brown sugar

1 (1lb) box dark brown sugar

1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter softened

1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter softened

1/3 cup molasses

1/3 cup molasses

2 large eggs

2 large eggs

6 cups all-purpose flour

6 cups all-purpose flour

2 tbsp ground cinnamon

2 tbsp ground cinnamon

2 tbsp ground ginger

2 tbsp ground ginger

1 1/2 tsp allspice

1 1/2 tsp allspice

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 tsp salt

I used a fork to create the fur texture for the Wookies, and heated up some chocolate Wilton candy melts for the belts and the face. It would be great to also use some white Wilton candy melts to add additional belt and eye detail for the next batch!
